Jim West Challenge: TCU edges out Houston to secure the sweep

Kirstin Angosta's performance on the final four holes shifted the outcome of the tournament

The 23rd-ranked Texas Christian University (TCU) women’s golf team claimed a thrilling one-shot victory over Houston to win the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, TX. The Horned Frogs posted a 22-under-par 842, with rounds of 281-281-280, securing their second team title in three weeks.

Sophomore Kirstin Angosta delivered a clutch performance, birdieing three of her final four holes to capture the individual title. She shot rounds of 69-69-68 for a total score of 10-under 206. Angosta’s heroics were crucial in edging out Houston by just a single stroke, making her the Horned Frogs’ first medalist in two years.

In a closely contested final round, TCU found themselves trailing Oklahoma by two shots with only three holes remaining. Angosta, tied for fourth at the time, came through with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes, pulling her into a six-way tie for the lead. Her final birdie on the 18th hole, combined with a crucial birdie from teammate Meagan Winans on the 3rd hole, sealed the dramatic victory for TCU.

Five players finished tied for second at 9-under, including UNLV senior McKenzi Hall, New Mexico freshman Maria Garcia, TCU freshman Camille Min-Gaultier, Texas Tech junior Lauren Zaretsky, and Oklahoma senior Reagan Chaney.

Freshman Camille Min-Gaultier’s strong performance placed her tied for second at 9-under 207, while Sofie Dimitrova’s 6-under 210 finish earned her a tie for 10th, highlighting TCU’s depth. This victory marks TCU’s 54th all-time tournament win and continues their successful season, following their title at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in September.
