Jesse Osborne completed a three-shot victory at the Vermont Senior Amateur Championship, closing with a 3-over 74 to finish at 11-over 224 at Burlington Country Club.
Representing Champlain Country Club, Osborne put together rounds of 69-81-74 over the 54-hole championship. His opening 2-under 69 proved particularly valuable, as it was the only sub-70 round recorded by any of the top five finishers during the week.
After setting the early pace with his 69, Osborne faced a much tougher second round and posted an 81. He responded in the final round with a steadier 74, doing enough to keep his nearest challengers at a distance and secure the Senior title.
Matthew Bacsardi of Country Club of Vermont entered the final round just two shots behind Osborne after rounds of 71 and 77. However, a closing 79 left him at 14-over 227, three shots behind the champion.
Tim Davidson of Lakeside Golf Club finished third at 17-over 230. Davidson opened with a 78 before improving to 74 in the second round and completing his week with another 78.
Burlington Country Club's Jon Guyette made the biggest final-round move among the leading players. After rounds of 78 and 80 left him well back through 36 holes, Guyette fired a 2-over 73 to climb into fourth at 18-over 231.
Brett Roland of Ekwanok Country Club rounded out the top five at 21-over 234, improving each day with rounds of 80-78-76.
Arakelian takes Super Senior title
David Arakelian of Lakeside Golf Club took the Super Senior title, following an opening 78 with a 75 to finish at 11-over 153.
Arakelian's three-shot victory came over Brian Flynn of Champlain Country Club, who posted rounds of 75-81 for a 14-over 156 total. Peter Kelley of Burlington Country Club was another shot back in third at 15-over 157 (77-80), while Brian Casey finished fourth at 18-over 160 following rounds of 81 and 79.
Corrigan, Klinkenberg share Legends honors
The Legends division produced the closest finish of the championship, with Edward Corrigan of Country Club of Barre and Peter Klinkenberg of Burlington Country Club finishing tied atop the standings at 24-over 166.
Corrigan reached the total with rounds of 82-84, while Klinkenberg was remarkably consistent with consecutive 83s.
Dennis Curran of Vermont National Country Club finished third at 26-over 168 (80-88). Les Johnson and Bob Davidson shared fourth at 28-over 170, with Johnson posting rounds of 86-84 and Davidson shooting 84-86.
