Big time golf once again was contested on Long Island this past weekend

SOUTHAMPTON, NY (June 24, 2018) - Big time golf once again was contested on Long Island this past weekend. Just days after the U.S. Open concluded at Shinnecock Hills a top notch group of amateurs made their way 1.6 miles away to the National Golf Links of America to compete for the C.B. MacDonald Annual Invitational.

The week began with a round of stroke play qualifying where Matthew Mattare posted a 2-under 70 to earn the top-seed in the First Flight. However, after Mattare won his Round of 16 match he was bested by eventual champion No. 9 Jamie Miller 3&2 in the quarterfinals.

In his Sunday morning semifinal match Miller, who reached the semis at the 2017 Crump Cup, continued his run with a comfortable 5&3 victory over 13-seed Zan Banks. On Sunday afternoon Miller completed his run to a the title with a 3&2 triumph over No. 14 Tim Kane.
