Jake Lewis secures comfortable win at Longleaf Pine Amateur

The UNC Greensboro freshman used a stellar second round at Pine Needles to take a hold off the lead

UNC Greensboro freshman Jake Lewis carded rounds of 69-67-70 to finish 9-under and win the 2024 Longleaf Pine Amateur at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Lewis, a Cary, N.C. native, recorded two eagles and 15 birdies over the three rounds to pull away from the field. 

Vaughn McMeans of Leesburg, Va., and Sam Davidson of Asheboro, N.C., finished T2 at 6-under. Michael Vick of Raleigh, N.C., finished in solo fourth place at 5-under. 

Keenan Royalty of Raleigh, N.C., finished in solo fifth place at 4-under behind rounds of 68-70-73. The sophomore at UNC Greensboro is a teammate of Lewis.

The Longleaf Pine Amateur is a featured 54-hole amateur event with 144 players competing on two of the best courses in the NC Sandhills: Mid Pines Golf Course and Pine Needles Golf Course.

After round two, the field is reduced to 50 low scores and ties. Players must be at least 16 years old to compete.
