The team’s lead was built on the strength of an opening 9-under 279. Jacksonville grew its lead from two shots to five shots in the afternoon round with a 3-under 285. At 12 under, they are five ahead of West Virginia and Louisville in a tie for second.
Thomas Thurloway, winner of this summer's English Amateur, led the Jacksonville charge with rounds of 70-68. His 6-under total is good enough for a share of second place. Michael Sakane had back-to-back rounds of 71 and is tied for 10th along with teammate Aaeri Kirshnan.
Cincinnati’s Austin Squires, a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Amateur, leads by three shots at 9 under. He had rounds of 66-69.
