Italians finish 1-2 at Portuguese International Amateur

Guido Migliozzi goes wire-to-wire at 14-under as he and fellow Italian Andrea Saracino (-12) run away from the field

PALMELA, Portugal (Feb. 13, 2016) -- Guido Migliozzi may not be the most well known amateur in the world, but the Italian has a proven track record of top finishes, and now he has two major amateur wins, and a jump up the world rankings, to his credit.

The last win came at the European Nations Sotagrande Cup in 2014, where he defeated a field that included Bradley Neil, who won the British Amateur that same year. (Neil has since turned pro).

Today at Montado Resort, Migliozzi and Andrea Saracino entered the final round separated by two shots. Both players shot 69, giving Migliozzi not only a major victory, but a tournament record as well.

Given the week's windy and rainy conditions, that record score and the separation of the Italian players from the rest of the field is impressive.

TOURNAMENT NOTES:

- John Axelsen of Denmark posted a solid final round of 68 to finish in solo third at 5-under

- Max Boegel of Germany must have found something at the tournament's halfway point -- after starting at 7- over for the first two rounds he fired bested everyone in the final two rounds by firing 67-66 (11-under). That moved Boegel into a 5-way tie for fourth place.
