International Senior: Joe Lyons goes Wire-To-Wire to win

Joe Lyons of Ireland secured the wire-to-wire win in the individual competition at the International Senior Invitational at Cartersville Country Club in Cartersville, Ga.

Lyons finished 5-under to hold off Michael Hughett of Owasso, Okla., who finished one shot back in solo second place at 4-under.

Lyons shot an impressive 7-under 65 to burst out in the lead after the first round and followed that up with a second-round 1-over 73 and a final-round 1-over 73.

Lyons had a roller coaster of a final round, making six birdies and seven bogeys. He started the round birdie-bogey-birdie-bogey-bogey before making his first par on hole No. 6.

Lyons bogeyed No. 17 to fall into a tie at 4-under with Hughett, but a Lyons birdie and a Hughett par on the par-5 No.18 and Lyons secured the win in regulation.

Overall, Lyons recorded 15 birdies and 10 bogeys. Hughett made a great effort, birding Holes No. 12, 13, and 15 to tie Lyons after being four shots back on hole No. 11.

Wes McNulty of White Hall, Ark., and Shane McMillan of Bountiful, Utah, finished T3 at 3-under.

In the team competition, Team Arkansas won by four shots over Team Georgia 1 and Team Georgia 2.

Team Arkansas

Team Arkansas consisted of Stan Payne of Little Rock, Ark., Wes McNulty of White Hall, Ark., and Gordy McKeown of White Hall, Ark.

Both Team Georgia's finished four shots behind Team Arkansas at 1-under and tied for second place.

Team Ireland started the day with a one-shot lead, but a final round of 148 saw them fall to solo fourth place at 1-over.
