Host Cal wins seventh straight Alister MacKenzie

FAIRFAX, CA (October 13, 2015) The host University of California-Berkley had a big team effort in an individual sport, with all five of their members posting top-20 individual rounds. As a team, Cal went 268-270-272=810 to finish in first for the seventh year in a row at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, winning by nine strokes over Pepperdine and Arizona State, who shot 819 to tie for second place. The talented Cal team dominated team play with everyone making contributions. K.K. Limbhasut (70-66-66=202), Sebastian Crampton (63-70-71=204), Shotaro Ban (72-65-68=205), Collin Morikawa (65-69-72=206) and Walker Huddy (70-70-67=207) made an unbeatable team at the par-71, 6734-yard Meadow Club. “It’s a great feeling when you know everyone is contributing and everybody sure did today,” Cal head coach Steve Desimone said after 36 holes. “People say this isn’t a team sport but this was as much a team sport today as you’ll ever see,” Desimone added. Arizona State and Pepperdine University finished in a tie for second place, nine strokes off the lead. Frederick Wedel of Pepperdine led his team with a 64-67-66=197 to tie Arizona State’s Jon Rahm (68-63-66=197) for second place in the individual competition. Cody Blick of San Jose State took the individual crown with his stellar play, going 64-65-67=196. His San Jose State team finished in 6th place (272-272-281=825), 15 strokes off the lead.
