Georgia Tech, Petefish win General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 11, 2018) - No. 8 Georgia Tech was able to do something Sunday that not many teams have been able to do this year, hold on and beat No. 2 Texas A&M, winners five-times year. Georgia Tech began the final day of the General Hackler Championship with a two-stroke lead and led by as many as six on Sunday before the Aggies to within one shot only to come up short. The Yellow Jackets, now winners themselves three-times, were led to a 16-under finish by medalist winner Chris Petefish. A senior, Petefish, finished 7-under following rounds of 72-68-69 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, to earn his first collegiate title. With just one previous top-10 showing this year, Petefish closed out his victory with a four birdie, one bogey final day. The birdies for Petefish feel on the 3rd, 6th, 12th and 15th holes while he only bogeyed once on the 14th. The remainder of the Georgia Tech lineup contributed throughout the week and all had at least one counting score; Noah Norton (T2; -5), Andy Ogletree (T15; -1), Luke Schniederjans (T22; +1) and Tyler Joiner (T53; +9). Rounding out the top-five in the team standings were Andrew Orischak (Virginia) joining Norton in second place at 5-under while Evan Quinn (Princeton), Dan Erickson (Texas A&M) and Philip Barbaree (LSU) shared fourth at 4-under. In the team standings No. 2 Texas A&M (-11) was second, Virginia (-5) was third, Kentucky (+5) took fourth and in fifth it was No. 12 LSU (+6).
