Former LSU star Humphries gets another Louisiana Am title

For John Humphries, a second state amateur title came 16 years after the first.

At the top of John Humphries’ old LSU player bio is a quote from former Tiger Coach Greg Jones.

“John is our anchor on the team. He is our leader, ‘Mr. Solid.’”

At Baton Rouge Country Club this week, in his old college town, Humphries was every bit Mr. Solid. After going 8 under for 72 holes, Humphries is the Louisiana Amateur champion…again. He last won this title in 2003, right after his senior season on the Tiger roster.

Humphries led after the second and third rounds of this event, and turned that lead into a two-shot win with his final-round 1-under 71. He had three birdies and two bogeys on Sunday.

Gage Primeaux finished second at 6 under. Another four shots back, Nicholas Arcement was third at 2 under.

Current LSU player Carter Toms was part of a three-way tie for fourth at 1 under.
