Dixie Amateur: Angela Zhang, Evan Myers hold comfortable leads at the halfway point

Zhang was the only golfer to shoot under par and holds a four shot lead

Low scores were scarce at both Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla., for the Dixie Amateur Men's Invitational and at Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Fla., for the Women's Invitational.

In the men's competition, former Texas A&M and now Nebraska golfer Evan Myers of Northbrook, Ill., leads by three shots at 1-over. Myers shot a first-round 2-under 70 and was one shot back of Matias Koropeski of Otuumwa, Ia., who shot a first-round 3-under 69.

Birgir Magnusson of Carbondale, Ill., is in solo second place at 4-over after rounds of 75-73.

Koropeski struggled in the second round, shooting an 8-over 80 and falling to T3. He is tied in third place with Parker Severs of Bradenton, Fla., and Zachary Verses of Sterling, Va., at 5-over.

In the women's competition, Angela Zhang of Bellevue, Wash., was the lone golfer under par for the day, recording a 1-under 70 with three birdies and two bogeys.

Zhang shot a first-round 2-over 73.

The first-round leader Hannah Hall of Rockledge, Fla., is T2 after a round of 6-over 77 and is now 5-over and is tied with Amelie Zalsman of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Lauryn Finley of Lake Mary, Fla.

Zhang, who is only 14 years old, participated in the 2023 U.S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links and in the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
