Creighton Takes Eastern Amateur Lead Into the Final Round

Myles Creighton of Radford University posts a three-under 67 to get to 13-under 197

PORTSMOUTH, VA (July 15, 2017) - Myles Creighton of Radford University has taken the lead of the 61st Eastern Amateur after posting a 3-under 67 in the 3rd round. Creighton, with two tournament titles under his belt this summer including the prestigious Rice Planters, stands at 13-under par 197. Creighton, from Nova Scotia, Canada has made just 3 bogeys through 54 holes. The low round of the day went to Belmont Abbey’s Nick Stafford who posted 6-under 64 and moved 6 spots up the leaderboard. Stafford is tied for second with Rollins College golfer Barry Babbitt who had 5-under 65. 36-hole leader J.B. Williams slipped to 4th place at 10-under par after a 1-over 71. Incoming Virginia freshman, Brandon Yoon (Loudon Co, VA) and Arizona State’s Ryan Douglass (Leesburg, VA) are tied for 5th at 8-under with East Tennessee golfer Ben Reichert. Douglass, runner-up in 2016, is playing in his 5th consecutive Eastern Amateur. 2017 Virginia Amateur Champion and Virginia Tech golfer Mark Lawrence (Richmond, VA) sits at 5-under, tied for 16th , after a 3rd round 65. Among local golfers, Adam Horton of Chesapeake and John Rosenstock of Virginia Beach are 3-under and Suffolk’s Trey Wren is 1-under. Final round play begins at 8am Sunday.
