Gonzalo Baños closed with rounds of 69-69-68-68 to finish at 14-under 274, sealing a four-shot win in a dominant wire-to-wire performance. The victory underlined the rapid rise of the Spaniard, who will join Oral Roberts University as a freshman in Fall 2026.
Baños was in control for most of the week, steadily building separation with two closing 68s to pull clear of the field. His consistency across all four rounds proved decisive as the tournament tightened late.
Yago Horno Mateo finished runner-up at 10-under 278 after rounds of 67-71-73-67, mounting a final-day push but never quite closing the gap. Horno Mateo, a 2026 commit to Mississippi State, continues a strong run after winning the Copa Baleares in December by an emphatic eight-shot margin.
The win adds another milestone to a strong year for Baños. In 2025, he competed in 11 ranked events, recording two victories — the Campeonato Abierto de Madrid Masculino in February and the Campeonato Andalucía Sub-18 in August, both in Spain.
His resume also includes international team and championship experience. Baños represented his country at the European Boys Team Championship Division 2 in Hungary in July and advanced to the match play stage of the R&A Boys’ Amateur Championship in Ireland last August.
It’s another data point in a steady pattern: Baños keeps showing up in strong fields, and this week he separated with four rounds in the 60s.
