Colleton River Collegiate: Georgia Southern goes wire-to-wire to win

Georgia Southern freshman Brycen Jones wins by a narrow margin, securing the one shot victory over four golfers

Georgia Southern men’s golf team led wire-to-wire to claim its third straight Colleton River Collegiate title at the Colleton River Golf Club Nicklaus Course in Bluffton, SC, with freshman Brycen Jones earning medalist honors at the tournament.

Georgia Southern carded rounds of 272-278-282 to register a comfortable two-shot win at a total score of 32-under 832. Chattanooga registered a runner-up finish after carding rounds of 283-275-276 for a total score of 20-under 834.

The Eagles won the event for the third straight year and the fourth time overall. It was Georgia Southern's second title of the season (Bush Cup match play vs. Army West Point).

In the individual competition, Georgia Southern freshman Brycen Jones carded rounds of 65-70-69 to secure a one-shot victory, claiming his maiden collegiate title with a total score of 12-under 204. Diego Lourenco, a freshman at Memphis, Chattanooga senior John Houk, Missouri senior Jack Lundin (recently named to the Haskins Award Spring Watch List), and Ryan Ford, a sophomore at Cincinnati, all posted matching total scores of 11-under par, all finishing T2.

Lourenco carded rounds of 71-69-65, Houk posted scores of 71-66-68, Lundin recorded 67-70-68, and Ford registered rounds of 67-68-70 at the tournament.

Georgia Southern had two more of its athletes finish inside the top 20. Fifth-year student Reece Coleman carded rounds of 67-70-72 to secure a T13 finish at 7-under par, followed by sophomore Luke Koenig, who shot 68-72-70 to achieve a T19 finish at 6-under par.

On the stats front, Georgia Southern led the field on Par 4s with a scoring average of 3.96 and recorded the highest number of birdies, tallying 69 in the tournament.
