Clemson takes Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

Virginia's Derek Bard won his third career individual title with a 6-under showing at Palmetto Golf Club

AIKEN, SC (March 7, 2016) -- After beginning the day in second place three shots back No. 21 Clemson turned in the second best round of the day to surge in front and win the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate for their third straight and third win overall of the season. Clemson, 5-under for the tournament was 9-over in the final round but was still able to hold on for a one shot victory over No. 5 Virginia at Palmetto Golf Club. Throughout the 54-hole event Clemson received contributions from the entire line up with freshman Doc Redman leading the way. Redman, 3-under, turned in rounds of 65-69-73. With the high finish Redman has now recorded four top-10 finishes for the season. Three other Tigers registered top-10 showings; senior Carson Young tied for fourth at 2-under while senior Austin Langdale and freshman William Nottingham were part of a ninth place group at 1-over. Sophomore Bryson Nimmer ended up in a tie for 30th at 8-over. In the medalist race Virginia senior Derek Bard finished 6-under and ahead by three-strokes. The victory was the third of Bard's UVA career as he used rounds of 69-65-70 to get the job done. Behind Bard in the medalist race at 3-under came teammate Danny Walker and Redman in a tie for second place while Keenan Huskey of South Carolina, Young and Timothy Conover of East Carolina shared fourth at 2-under. Second place Virginia, playing without Jimmy Stanger who is competing in this weeks PGA Tour Valspar Championship ended up 4-under, South Carolina was third at 4-over, Augusta was fourth at 8-over and Georgia Southern was 20-over in fifth place.
