Carolinas Amateur: Seabolt, Register share lead

From the Carolinas Golf Association GREENVILLE, SC (7/12/14) – Third round results of the 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Greenville Country Club (Chanticleer) in Greenville, SC on Saturday, July 12, 2014 (6836 yards, par 36-36—72, 75.0/146). There are two players tied for the lead in the 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship after three rounds of play. William Register of Burlington, NC played a steady round today scoring a 3-under 69 to take a share of the lead (211, 5-under par). First and second round leader Zach Seabolt, Raleigh, NC had a difficult putting day and carded a 5-over par 77 but retains a share of the lead going into the final round. Register, a rising freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill, started the day eight strokes behind the lead and felt that he needed a steady round of pars and birdies in hopes to have the leaders come back to the field. He carded four birdies against one bogey for one of the low rounds of the day. “It was tough out there today,” Register said about the course conditions and set-up. Seabolt, a Winthrop University sophomore, began his round with two three-putt greens and failed to get a handle on the speed for most of his round. “It was a tale of two different days,” commented Seabolt after having carded 10 birdies with an outstanding putting display on Friday. Just one stroke back is Danny Pizetoski of Davidson, NC who shot even par to remain alone in third place (212, 4-under par). Also in contention are three other competitors at 213 (3-under par): Al Dickens, Charlotte, NC; defending champion Carter Jenkins, Raleigh, NC; and William Rainey of Charlotte, NC.
