Oklahoma nearly matched its opening round at the Carmel Cup on Saturday, going double-digits under par from the second consecutive day at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. After an 11-under 349 in the first round, the Sooners returned a 10-under 350. At 21 under, the defending champions in this event lead Texas Tech by two shots.
Oklahoma got two more big rounds from its seniors. Garett Reband followed an opening 65 with a 70, and Quade Cummins went bogey free for a 3-under 69. Freshman Turner Hosch was the low Sooner of the day with a 5-under 67.
"We always talk about putting ourselves in a position to have a chance to win and we have that opportunity tomorrow," Oklahoma head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Turner had another great day and he continues to impress. We will need everyone in the game tomorrow from start to finish."
Texas Tech was able to make up ground on Saturday with the round of the day. The team counted three rounds in the 60s for a 17-under total.
Arkansas and Georgia, at 15 under and 6 under, respectively, are the only other teams under par for 36 holes.
No one could touch Reband in the individual lead. At 9 under, he is one ahead of Texas Tech’s Andy Lopez, teammate Hosch and Arkansas’ Julian Perico.
