Cal looking for fifth straight John Burns Intercollegiate win

The University of California leads by five shots at their host event, which they have won the past four years

WAILUA, Hawaii — Steve Desimone and his Cal men's golf team are in position to win their host event, the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Wailua Golf Club, for the fifth consecutive time. The team has been led thus far by Shotaro Ban, who opened the tournament with a 67. After a 72 on day two, he's tied for third place, a stroke behind Andrej Bevins of New Mexico and George Cunningham of Arizona. “We take great pride in our winning streak at this event,” Desimone said. “It’s not very often that a team can string together a win streak in a single event like we’ve been able to do. We’d like to make it five in a row and keep this going for a while.” New Mexico and UNLV are tied for second place in the team race at two-over.
