BYU Takes Nick Watney Invitational

BYU collects its second win of the fall season lead by a final-round 67 by junior Patrick Fishburn

FRESNO, Calif. (October 4, 2016) -- The BYU Cougars their second team win of the fall season today at the Nick Watney Invitational hosted by San Joaquin Country Club. Adding to their win at the Olympic Collegiate last month, The Cougars posted a three-round total of 853 (1-over) to best the 15-team field of primarily Big West and Mountain West schools. University of Nevada-Reno and St. Mary's finished runner-up at 855 (+3) while Cal Poly and UC Irvine rounded out the top five at 860 (+8) and 861 (+9) respectively. Leading the Cougars were junior Patrick Fishburn and freshman Peter Kuest. Fishburn posted a timely final-round 67 (-4) that included a clutch eagle on the par-5 18th to finish his tournament. Kuest also finished strong with a final-round 69 (-2) which included six birdies including one on the closing 18th. Fishburn finished in a tie for third individually while Kuest placed in a tie for 5th. The individual title was won by St. Mary's Perry Cohen. Cohen, a junior from La Jolla, Calif., finished with a birdie to capture his first individual college win. He posted a three-round total of 208 (-5) with ronds of 68, 71, and 69 to finish one stroke ahead of Cal Poly's Justin De Los Santos.
