Brad Nurski medals at Crump Cup

2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up Brad Nurski medaled in the championship division while Matthew Sughrue was the top senior player

PINE VALLEY, N.J. -- Brad Nurski of St. Joseph, Mo. took the medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 141 in the Open Division of the 91st annual George Arthur Crump Memorial Tournament at the Pine Valley Golf Club. Nurski, who was runner-up at the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur, made a 35-foot birdie putt on his final hole for an even-par 70 and will face Patrick Carter of Huntington, W.V. in Saturday morning’s first round of match play. First-round leader John Sawin, who captured the Walter J. Travis Invitational back in May at Garden City Golf Club, posted 3-under 67 on Thursday but struggled on Friday. His 77 dropped him back to sixth place. He led by two over Jeff Osberg of West Chester, Pa. following the first round, who also fell back with a tough second round. Osberg tied for seventh after his final-round 76, and he and Sawin will still be high seeds entering match play. In the Senior Division, Matthew Sughrue of Arlington, Va. was medalist with scores of 72 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 143. Sughrue will play Steve Smyers of Lakeland, Fla. in the first round of Senior Division match play. To view qualifying results, click here.
