Big 12 Match Play: Texas takes down Baylor in the Championship Match

The Longhorns defeated Baylor 4-1 in the Championship match.

Texas won the Big 12 Match Play Championship at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Tex.

The Longhorns defeated Baylor 4-1 in the Championship match. This is the second win in the event by Texas in its five-year history. Ludvig Aberg and Texas Tech won the event last season.

In the championship match against Baylor, Nathan Petronzio posted a 5&4 win against Trey Bosco, and Christiaan Maas recorded a 5&3 victory over Luke Dossey. Jacob Sosa clinched the overall team victory with a 2&1 win against Davis Ovard, and Brian Stark added a 1-up victory over Johnny Keefer.

During the three-day event, the Longhorns registered an overall record of 4-1, with the only setback coming in a 4-2 defeat to No. 19 Oklahoma in an exhibition match. Texas claimed a 5-0 victory over Cincinnati on Monday morning and a 3.5-1.5 win against K-State on Tuesday morning in pool play.

The Longhorns posted a 3.5-1.5 victory over Oklahoma State in the bracket semifinals on Tuesday afternoon before concluding their run with a win against Baylor in the championship match on Wednesday.

Petronzio and Stark led the way individually during the tournament, as both posted 4-1 match-play records. Sosa also added a 3-1-1 mark on the week.
