Before they turned pro: Rocket Mortgage Mon qualifier, weekend contender Peter Kuest

Kuest, from Fresno, Calif., was a star at BYU who once led a tournament by seven shots, after one round!

Rarely does a player build a seven-shot lead after just one round.

But for BYU junior Peter Kuest, a round in the double digits at Poppy Hills Golf Club left him nearly out of sight of the rest of the field at the 2018 St. Mary's Invitational. Kuest’s 10-under 61 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach included eight birdies, an eagle, and no bogeys.

He was a major factor in pulling his team up the leaderboard, too. BYU led the team race by 10, but amazingly USC won the tournament with a 17 shot comeback in the final round.

Kuest, who won the individual title by five shots, defended his title in 2019. He also won the John Burns Invitational in Hawaii and the William Tucker Collegiate as well. He turned pro during the pandemic year of 2020. Take a look at Kuest's rankings profile here.
