Barry Dyche wins Charlotte City Amateur

Barry Dyche closed with 70 on Sunday at Charlotte Country Club to capture his first City Amateur title

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Barry Dyche closed with a final-round 70 on Sunday at Charlotte Country Club to win his first Charlotte City Amateur Championship. As the only player to shoot under par during all three rounds, Dyche capped off a two-shot win with his two-under par 70 on Sunday, pulling away from second-round co-leader Patrick Cover, who struggled to a 74 in the final round. Dyche's previous best finish at the event was a tie for fifth in 2013. “I hit it really good, and I hit the driver great,” Dyche told the Charlotte Observer. “I only missed one or two fairways all day, and hit a lot of greens. Maybe a couple more putts could’ve gone in, but I was pretty pleased with the score.” Dyche's first two rounds put him at 138, tied with Cover, with his second-round 67 being the lowest score shot during the tournament. Cover fell back into a tie for fourth place with Peyton Smith, while Bennett Smith took second at 210 and Chris Jones third at 211.
