TUSCALOOSA, AL (April 29, 2018) - Will Swift of Vestavia Hills and Clay Guerin of Hoover won the Alabama State Four-Ball Championship, winning a playoff at Indian Hills Country Club.
For Guerin, it was his second four-ball win in as many weeks. Last week he traveled to the Country Club of Columbus in Georgia and won the Haskins Four-Ball with partner Jacob Hitt of Richmond Hill, GA.
Swift and Guerin birdied the 18th hole to force the match to extra holes against John Racciatti Jr. of Fairhope and Steven Setterstrom Jr. of Mobile.
Both sides bogeyed the 19th hole and scrambled to save par on the 20th hole. Swift made his birdie putt on the 21st hole, while Setterstrom missed his 10-foot birdie to halve the hole.
This is Swift and Guerin’s first Alabama State Four-Ball title.
Swift and Guerin lost the opening hole of the match to go one down. A birdie on the fourth hole squared the match before Racciatti Jr. and Setterstrom Jr. won three of the next five holes. Swift-Guerin answered with par on the 11th and a birdie on the 12th hole to return the match to one down. The pair would remain 1 down until Swift rolled in the must have birdie on the 18th green.
In the morning semifinals, Swift-Guerin defeated sixteen seed Ben Fuller of Birmingham and Sam Jeffcoat of Birmingham, 2 and 1.
Racciatti Jr.-Setterstrom Jr. advanced past Richard Schmidt and Sam Audia III of Birmingham by a 3 and 2 margin.
