Brandon Robison of Centerville, Ut., a sophomore at the University of Utah, won the 2023 Agave Amateur at Shadow Hills Country Club in Indio, Calif., with a birdie on the second playoff hole over Logan Hamak of Sartell, Minn. Robison came into the final round in second place and shot a final round 4-under 67 to finish the tournament at 11-under.
Hamak shot an identical 4-under 67 to tie with Robison at 11-under. Both players were one shot back heading into the tournament’s final hole when leader Phillip Kench made a double-bogey to force the playoff.
Playing No. 10, both players parred the first playoff hole, and then Robison birdied the 2nd hole, the par-5 No. 11, when he converted a six-foot birdie putt. According to the tournament officials on site, Robison had to hit his third shot from a divot.
“Thank you to Shadow Hills for hosting and for the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series for putting on a great tournament," Robison told the Agave Amateur. "This win means a lot to me. It is a validation of all the hard work that I have put in over the past several months.”
Shadow Hills has now hosted seven Agave Amateurs.
