AGA Championship: Chris Kamin survives in a playoff

Kamin has now won the championship in back-to-back years

Chris Kamin of Phoenix, Ariz., defended his Arizona Golf Association Championship by winning in a playoff at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen, Ariz. 

Kamin shot rounds of 66-68-69 to finish 13-under and force a playoff with Matt Neils of Phoenix, Ariz. Kamin won the championship on the first playoff hole. Neils made a birdie on No. 18 to force the playoff with Kamin after bogeying No. 17 to fall out of a tie for the lead. 

The 2022 AGA Player of the Year got off to a hot start, shooting a 6-under 66 first-round to take a two-shot lead and secure a wire-to-wire win with his subsequent rounds of 4-under 68 and 3-under 69. 

Kamin shot 16-under in 2023 to win the championship after overcoming a two-shot deficit heading into the final round. He won 2022 AGA Player of the Year honors.

Neils finished in solo second place at 13-under after falling to Kamin in the playoff. Sam Engle of Scottsdale, Ariz., finished in solo third place at 12-under, finishing one shot out of the playoff. Colin Pratt of Scottsdale, Ariz., finished in solo fourth place at 11-under. 

Engle made a bogey on No. 18 to fall out of the playoff.

Kamin is currently ranked No. 446 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com U.S. Rankings.
