Virginia placed three inside the top-15 to edge Auburn by one-stroke in Las Vegas
Top-ranked Virginia held off No. 2 Auburn by a single stroke to win the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, finishing at 15-under 849 after rounds of 277-284-288.
The Cavaliers’ fourth victory of the season is their most since the program’s five-win campaign in 2016-17.
Auburn finished runner-up at 14-under 850 following rounds of 282-281-287, while Illinois (4-under) and Texas (1-under) were the only other teams to end the 54-hole event under par.
Virginia closed with an even-par 288 to seal the win, placing three players inside the top 15.
Junior Josh Duangmanee led the charge with a runner-up finish at 8-under after rounds of 72-67-69. His bogey-free 69 in the final round was among the lowest of the day and capped a strong climb up the leaderboard after opening with a 72.
Senior Ben James continued his remarkable consistency, finishing T-5 at 5-under (68-69-72). The PGATourU No. 1-ranked player has now recorded top-five finishes in all five of his starts this season.
Graduate student Paul Chang, who held the 36-hole lead, slipped to T-11th at 3-under after a closing 76.
Texas senior Christiaan Maas captured the individual title at 10-under 206 with rounds of 70-68-68, finishing two shots clear. Auburn junior Jackson Koivun placed third at 7-under.
San Diego sophomore Harry Takis, the current No. 1 player on the Scoreboard rankings, finished T-7 at 4-under.
Defending champions and hosts UNLV endured a difficult week, finishing last in the 15-team field at 30-over.
