Christiaan Maas posts a dominant –22 to lead South Africa’s breakthrough victory in Singapore
Singapore, Oct. 11, 2025 — South Africa delivered a wire-to-wire statement to capture its first Eisenhower Trophy, posting -29 (547) at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Tampines Course. Anchored by Christiaan Maas—who topped the individual table at -22 (266)—the South African trio kept the throttle down across four rounds, pulling clear of Australia (-21 / 555) with a composed closing effort. England (-19 / 557) surged late for bronze, while Mexico (-17) and France (-15) rounded out the top five.
“Yeah, just elated. Really proud. The guys played unbelievable golf the whole week. It's just been such a great experience being here,” said Gavin Groves, South Africa’s captain. “This has been a long time coming… it’s been a lot of near misses, a lot of very talented teams.”
“I’m relieved, happy. It’s nice to see that my game can travel. It’s a long flight over here, different conditions,” said Christiaan Maas. “It’s a long week. I think building a lead, everybody thinks it’s all happy, but it also comes with a lot of pressure… Being in a team event, it can quickly go the other way.”
From Team USA: “It was a rough first day, obviously, and I'm just glad they hung in there and did their best and gave it their all the whole time… We really wanted to come here and win this tournament. I know that South Africa played amazingly well, and that would have been a tall task no matter how well we played… In the end, we didn't have it this week like we needed to, to contend with a lot of these great players.” — Chris Zambri, USA Coach
Tanah Merah Country Club, Singapore Singapore’s Tanah Merah CC (Tampines) offered a strategic test with broad fairways, sculpted bunkering, and firm, multi-tiered greens that rewarded precise approach play. Warm, humid conditions demanded patience and sharp course management through the finish.
