Amateur Justin Hastings records top 15 finish at Mexico Open

2024 U.S. Amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester finished T17 and one shot back of Hastings

2025 Latin America Amateur champion and San Diego State star Justin Hastings carded rounds of 69-67-65-70 to finish 13-under and T13 at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld.

Hastings shot a final round 1-under 70 to stay in the top 15 after coming into the day T9. He recorded four birdies and three bogeys, with birdies on holes No. 14, 15, and 18 to finish strong.

Hastings finished No. 19 in the field in strokes gained: Approach to Green and No. 15 in the field in putting for the week.

2024 U.S. Amateur champion and current Arizona State star Jose Luis Ballester carded rounds of 69-69-69-65 to finish 12-under and T17. Ballester shot a 6-under 65 in the final round with five birdies, a bogey and an eagle. He eagled the par-5 No. 6 coming into the clubhouse after starting on the back nine.

Ballester is currently ranked No. 10 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, and Hastings is ranked No. 19.

Hastings finished the first two rounds 6-under, while Ballester shot 4-under. The cut fell at 3-under.

Blades Brown, a former junior star who turned pro in January, also made his first cut as a professional. He finished the first two rounds at 5-under and made the cut by two shots. He shot rounds of 67-71 to finish T34 and 9-under in just his second start as a professional.
