Corbett got out to a four-shot lead after the opening round and never looked back, going wire-to-wire and winning by nine shots
A first-round 7-under 63 saw Bryce Corbett gain distance on the field and never look back, winning the 2024 Middle Atlantic Amateur Championship at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md., by nine shots.
Corbett shot rounds of 63-67-71 to finish 9-under and secure the wire-to-wire win. He was the only golfer to finish the championship under par.
In the first round, Corbett recorded eight birdies and one bogey, bogeying the final hole. The Gainesville, Va., native held a four-shot lead heading into the final 36 holes.
He finished with 19 birdies and 10 bogeys at Columbia Country Club through 54 holes.
Ben Warnquist of Gaithersburg, Md., finished in solo second place at even par, and Matthew Cocorikis of Arlington, Va., finished in solo third place at 1-over. Brad Whitaker of Kensington, Md., finished in solo fourth place at 5-over, and David Kostyal II finished in solo fifth place at 7-over.
Corbett recently graduated from Radford University, where he amassed a stellar resume, earning spots on the 2024 First Team All-Big South team and the 2024 Big South All-Tournament Team.
He was also the 2023 Big South Golfer of the Year and earned spots on the 2023 First Team All-Big South, 2023 Big South All-Tournament Team, 2022 First Team All-Big South, and 2022 Big South All-Tournament Team.
He led the 2023 Eastern Amateur heading into the final round, ultimately finishing T4.
The Middle Atlantic Amateur has been conducted on the best courses in the region, including Columbia CC, Chevy Chase Club, Congressional CC, The Cascades, Caves Valley GC, the East Course at Baltimore CC, CC of Virginia James River Course, Four Streams GC, Woodmont CC, Woodholme CC, and Farmington CC.
Part of this event's recent tradition is that it is held on the best courses in the region and in the early fall, when playing conditions are typically at their best.
