Michael Hay of Nova Southeastern used his consistency to win the individual title by two shots
Florida Southern shot 6-over 870 following rounds of 285-282-303 to win the Matlock Collegiate Classic at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
This was the first time in six years that Florida Southern Mocs claimed the team title at its own tournament in 2018 after finishing as runners-up in the last two tournaments. The Moccasins hung on to claim their third team title of the year, withstanding Nova Southeastern's charge in the final round.
Nova Southeastern shot rounds of 291-288-296 to register a runner-up finish at a total score of 11-over par.
In the individual competition, Michael Hay, a graduate student at Nova Southeastern, carded rounds of 70-72-71 to secure the individual title with a two-shot margin at 3-under par. Joseph Hudak and Jose Ramirez from Lynn posted matching totals of 1-under par, earning them a T2 finish.
Hudak carded rounds of 68-75-72, while Ramirez recorded scores of 74-65-76. Notably, Ramirez's second-round score of 7-under 65 also stood as the tournament's low for the week.
On its way to the team win, Florida Southern secured second position on the par 3's with an average of 3.33 and tied for second on par 4's at 4.20, while leading the field on the par 5's at 4.57.
