Cowboys edge rival Oklahoma to win their season opener at Pebble Beach
For the fourth time in seven years, the No. 2 ranked Cowboys emerged victorious at the Carmel Cup held on the famed layout with a winning score of 18-under 1062, good for a one-stroke victory over Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma, which was ranked first in Golfweek's Preseason Top 25 poll.
Oklahoma's Logan McAllister defeated Trent Phillips of Georgia in a playoff for the individual title after both shot 11-under 206. McAllister, who posted a pair of 3-under 69s to start the tournament, carded a final round 68 to catch Phillips, who began the day with a two-stroke lead before settling for a 2-under 70 in his final round.
McAllister gets his third win and powers the #Sooners to a runner-up finish at the season-opening Carmel Cup.

Kyle Hogan of Texas Tech turned in the lowest round of the tournament on Sunday, finishing with a 5-under 67 to earn a share of third place with Brian Stark of Oklahoma State and Mateo Fernandez De Oliveira of Arkansas.
Oklahoma State, which won four of their last six tournaments of last season but fell short in its quest for a national championship, finishing second to Pepperdine, returns plenty of firepower which should more than offset the loss of All-American Austin Eckroat.
Junior Eugenio Chacarra, a Golfweek first-team All-American and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year last season after finishing in the top 10 eight times, five times in the top five, is one of two Cowboys on the Haskins Award Watch List, along with teammate Bo Jin. The sophomore seems poised for a breakout year after finishing tied for second at the Big 12 Championship, NCAA Stillwater Regional and NCAA Championship, respectively.
Stark, a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season, advanced to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Amateur while senior Aman Gupta also advanced to match play at Oakmont.
