Qualifying is complete at 65 sites across the United States; see who has made it to Sankaty Head Golf Club in Siasconset, Mass.
A record 5,339 entries were accepted for the championship, to be held at Sankaty Head Golf Club in Siasconset, Mass. 42 players, including the defending champion Lukas Michel of Australia, are exempt into the championship, with the remainder of the 264-player field coming from sectional qualifying.

At Canterwood Golf Club in Gig Harbor, Wash., Dan Campbell grinded out nine consecutive pars to finish with an even par round of 72 and shared medalist honors with Brendan Shibley, who righted his ship with birdies on holes 8, 9 and 14 after making three consecutive bogeys out of the gates. Luke Easterly, who was 4-over on his round after a bogey on 10, made birdies on holes 12, 13 and 16 to finish with a 73 and advanced to the Cape after surviving a playoff with Andrew Von Lossow.

There were plenty of late fireworks for the two qualifier spots at Genoa (Nev.) Lakes Golf Club, located between Reno and Lake Tahoe. Darren Johnson followed an eagle on the par-4 16th with a birdie on 17 while Kambiz Marui also eagled the 16th for 6-under rounds of 66, which led to a 3-for-2 playoff with Darren Fletcher. Fletcher and Johnson survived and are headed to Siasconset.

Andrew Ganey used an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole en route to a 3-under 68 and medalist honors at Minnehana Country Club in Sioux Falls, SD. He'll be joined in Siasconset, Mass. by Patrick Duffy, who made birdies on 15 and 16 to finish at 2-under 69 before defeating Ralph Baxley and Chris Mithelman in a four-hole playoff for the final qualifier's spot.

At Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla., Robert Fox (Jupiter, Fla.) was the medalist with a 69 but the real action was the battle for the remaining two qualifying spots. Five players shot 70 and played off for the two spots, with Erick Morales (Puerto Rico) and Drew Downs (Valrico, Fla.) advancing to the championship.

Sutherland and Coffey shared co-medalist honors after both players shot rounds of 68 (-4). Sutherland was bogey-free in his plotting of Gibson Bay whereas Coffey had a couple of bogeys amidst a six-birdie performance. Coffey played the outward nine in 32 (-4) which was the best nine-hole score of the day and a big part of the reason why he’ll find himself in New England this fall.
Cumiskey finished in solo third to lock down the final automatic exemption with a score of 69 (-3). A clutch finish with two birdies in the final four holes, including one on the par-four 18th, loomed large in his qualification. A par on the last would have resulted in a playoff for the final spot.

Glendon Sutton (Boston, Mass.) vacations in Nantucket with his family, and now will compete in the U.S. Mid-Amateur there after shooting a 68 to earn medalist honors at The Ranch GC in Southwick, Mass.
“I’m fortunate enough to have a house out there, my wife and kids spend the summers there so this is always one that I wanted to get since they made the announcement two years ago,” Sutton told the Massachusetts Golf Association. “It’s a dad’s a dream, it’s something I worked for. But you get busy with work and family life and you only get so many swings. It’s gonna be fun.”

Four-time Nebraska Amateur champion Andy Sajevic shot a 66 at The Players Club in his hometown of Omaha, Neb. to advance to the championship for the second time in four years.
Omaha’s Andy Sajevic, 66 (-5) & Lincoln’s Jay Moore, 68 (-3) secured their spots in the 40th #usmidam. It will be Moore’s first USGA Championship. Sajevic qualified for the #usmidam in 2018.

Former Florida State golfer Drew Kittleson (Scottdale, Ariz.) flew up to Minnesota where he used to spend his summers and took medalist honors at StoneRidge GC despite never seeing the golf course. In fact, he almost didn't get to the first tee after an airline lost his golf clubs. But they arrived the morning of the qualifier, and he took an Uber to the golf course, arriving a half hour before his tee time.
“I had my clubs and everything was great,” Kittleson told Nick Hunter of the Minnesota Golf Association. “If I had gotten here a little quicker, I probably would’ve hit a few more putts because my speed was way off.”
“I’m looking forward to it. For the [U.S. Mid-Amateur] to be in Nantucket, I’m going to take my wife and we’re going get a house and make a vacation out of it,” said Kittleson. “I spend a lot of time away from home, primarily for work, so when I do play an event, I think it’s important that my family gets to partake in it."
