There is no entry form. There is no points list. There is only the invitation — and next week, the players who have one make their way down the unmarked road in southern New Jersey for the 2026 Crump Cup, played September 17-20 at Pine Valley Golf Club.
The date is earlier than usual, and that's by design: the Crump Cup famously floats its dates each year to avoid colliding with the U.S. Mid-Amateur, which this year occupies the following week at Sand Valley. The result is a rare September stretch where the two premier events in mid-amateur golf run back-to-back — and the best players in the division will try to play both.
Wyatt defends
Bobby Wyatt returns as defending champion after defeating Bobby Massa in last year's final, a victory that came in the tournament's landmark 100th playing. In the senior division, Bob Royak — the 2019 U.S. Senior Amateur champion and a fixture in every senior field that matters — defends the title he claimed in 2025.
The format
The George A. Crump Memorial Tournament follows its traditional shape: two rounds of stroke play qualifying Thursday and Friday, with the field then flighted by 36-hole score — the low 16 into the Championship Flight — before match play takes over the weekend. A separate senior championship runs concurrently. Jay Sigel still owns the record book with nine titles between 1975 and 1993.
Why it stands alone
We made the full case recently for why this might be the best tournament in amateur golf, but the short version holds: the world's consensus No. 1 golf course, a field assembled entirely by invitation and maintained by performance and conduct, competitors sleeping in the dorms on property, and a week that operates entirely on Pine Valley's terms. Play your way onto the national radar for a couple of years and an envelope might find you. There is no other way in.
Public viewing of the Sunday finals, a beloved old tradition, remains suspended — which only deepens the event's status as amateur golf's most compelling thing that almost nobody sees.
