The Porter Cup has canceled its 2020 playing due to COVID-19. In a press release, the Porter Cup announced that there will not be a Cup played at Niagara Falls Country Club for the first time since 1959.
With the women’s Cup scheduled for June 3-5 and the men’s Cup to be held July 22-25, the Porter Cup adds itself to a long list of cancelled tournaments.

Tournament co-director Michael Vitch said via a press release that the decision “really came down to a matter of safety for both our members and the players.”
Vitch also mentioned that by being in Western New York and having uncertainties with different phases of reopening in the region, it was best to preemptively cancel the Cup.
With the latest cancellation, the list of men's amateur majors continues to shrink, elevating the status of those that remain.
Although the Porter Cup is cancelled, the Senior Porter Cup is still a full go. Taking place on September 2-4, the 2020 Senior Porter Cup will still be held.
Last year, Aiden Didone, Jackie Rogowicz, and Doug Hanzel won the men’s, women’s, and senior Porter Cups. Hanzel will be the only one who gets to defend his six-shot victory in the Senior Porter Cup.
