On the strength of medalist winner Lilia Vu the Bruins cruised to the wire-to-wire title at Sewailo Golf Club
TUCSON, AZ (April 26, 2017) - For the first time since 2006 and the sixth time in program history UCLA has won the Pac-12 Women's Championship. Behind the play of medalist winner Lilia Vu the Bruins cruised to a wire-to-wire title at Sewailo Golf Club. UCLA finished the tournament 2-under-par and 21 strokes in front of runner-up Colorado.
Behind the 19-over Buffalos came Stanford in third at 20-over, Arizona in fourth at 23-over and in fifth it was 30-over USC.
Tied for the medalist lead with Bethany Wu after the first round, Vu pulled away in the second round to take a four shot lead before finishing 7-over and as the six-stroke victor.
Vu, a sophomore, didn't no anything spectacular on Wednesday but as most of the field struggled an even-par 70 was more than enough to get the job done. During the final round Vu carded birdies on the 5th, 8th and 15th holes.Vu created the separation she needed during her bogey-free 6-under 66 second round.
UCLA also received top-15 performances from; Mariel Galdiano (2nd; -1), Bethany Wu (T11; +6) and Erin Choi (14th; +7).
The top-five of the medalist standings was rounded out by Galdiano (UCLA) in second, Andrea Lee (Stanford) and Linnea Strom (Arizona State) shared third at 1-over while Arizona teammates Haley Moore and Krystal Quihuis tied for fifth at 3-over.
