Strategic Insight

Expected cut lineNo cutAfter 36 holes
Strength of field

The 2025 edition attracted University of San Francisco freshman Theo Anderson (who won at 4-under) and a leaderboard stacked within three shots through 18 holes. Expect similar depth in 2026 with low-index amateurs, mid-ams, and senior standouts drawn to the renovated course.

Course expectations

San Juan Oaks demands smart tee-ball positioning on rolling terrain (par 72, 7,071 yards from the tips) and rewards angles into firm, fast greens. December conditions amplify ground-game options; the 4.5-hour pace standard keeps play moving through threesomes on split tees.

Weather risk

Hollister's inland December climate is dry but cool; morning air can be crisp and slightly heavier playing conditions favor patience and course management over aggressive lines.

Del Monte's timeless shotmaking test rewards position over power—wedge precision, correct approach angles, and patience in the pine corridors separate winners from the field, while putting becomes a divider rather than a savior on the classic, exacting greens.

The tournament's recent history shows that Pacific Grove rewards both local knowledge and Sunday charges—winners have closed with low rounds of 64 (Mitchell Hoey in 2025, Jerry Ledzinski in 2026) to separate from tight fields, suggesting that aggressive play on the exposed back nine is often the difference-maker.
