GREENVILLE, S.C. — At the completion of the 84th South Carolina Amateur Championship, Keenan Huskey is the 2015 Champion after mastering the difficult Robert Trent Jones, Chanticleer layout of Greenville Country Club. Local resident and Greenville Country Club member Lee Palms could only watch as he comfortably wrapped up second place honors with a respectable ten under par 278.

It was a record tying four days by Huskey. Only one other time had an SCGA Amateur Champion shot 19 under par 269. That Champion was Lucas Glover in 1999 at the Country Club of Charleston when he claimed his second of three consecutive titles. However, Glover defeated future teammate Jonathan Byrd by one shot. Huskey dominated the field and the golf course all week.

“I played really good golf. I hit fairways and I was hitting it close on greens. I think I only had one or two putts of 45 feet or more all week,” Huskey commented on his performance.

When asked how he felt about the win, “It means a lot. A lot of good players have won this golf tournament and to be in that company, it means a lot,” he said gratifyingly.

Huskey had an unblemished week, shooting under par on each nine he faced and finishing with rounds of 68-67-68-66. He even realized he could make it to 20 under par on the 18th when he had a 20 foot putt for birdie that just slid by the cup.

Huskey came into the day with a with a six stroke lead over Palms that quickly shrunk to four shots as Palms made an early charge with three birdies in his first five holes. However, a hiccup double bogey on the par four eighth hole set Palms back and Huskey kept his foot on the gas. With a lone bogey on the fourth hole, Huskey added three birdies on the front side and two more on the back plus an eagle on the par five 15th hole to push his round to six under par on the day and add his name to the Billy Lewis Trophy.

Rounding out the top ten are Caleb Proveaux of Gilbert who finished third at five under par for the tournament. Julian Keur and Thomas Todd, III finished tied for fourth at two under par. Chris Easy and Austin Langdale wrapped up the T-6 position at one under par and the only seven players to tame the difficult Chanticleer course. Tied for eighth was Jonathan Hardee and Stephen Behr, Jr. at even par and Sam Jackson finished at one over par alone in tenth. The top 20 are exempt for next year’s championship, which will be held at DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, SC.

The 2015 SCGA Amateur Championship was played at Greenville Country Club’s Chanticleer Course over the par 72 – 6,819 yard Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout. The field consisted of 129 players that were either exempt or qualified at one of four sites. Seventy-seven players made the cut for the third and final rounds. The Amateur Championship is one of 21 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 84th year of existence.
