Worcester County Amateur: Guthrie holds 1-shot lead

PAXTON, Mass. (July 5, 2014) -- J.C. Guthrie fired a first-round 72 and leads the 2014 Worcester County Amateur. After Saturday's first round at Kettle Brook Golf Club, Guthrie owns a one-shot advantage over Matthew Leger and Frank Vana, a longtime force on the Massachusetts amateur golf stage. Doug Parigian is alone in fourth after a 74. Guthrie heads into Sunday's finale at Wachusett Country Club ahead of a field of many of the region's top golfers, including nine players within four shots of the lead and another 10 just five shots back.
