With 36 holes in the books, the 120th Women’s Western Amateur has been cut to the low 32 players for match play.
First-round co-leader Blair Stockett stayed atop the leaderboard to earn co-medalist honors at 4 under with a 1-under 71 on Wednesday. Stockett, a Mississippi State product, is joined by Alabama’s Caroline Curtis. Curtis scratched just one bogey on her scorecard as she climbed the leaderboard with a second-round 69.
With Prestwick Country Club playing tougher than it did during Tuesday’s opening round, not much was to be gained. However, plenty was to be lost.
Round one co-leaders Mary Parsons and Brooke Biermann fell down the leaderboard after carding rounds of 77 and 78 respectively, but both safely made the match play bracket. Marissa Wenzler remained under par for the tournament as she tallied a 2-over 74, falling from the lead to sixth at one-over-par.
The cut fell at 6-over 150, with Noor Ahmed and Micaela Farah surviving a 5-for-2 playoff to advance to match play. Ahmed will play against Stockett and Farah will face Curtis on opposite ends of the bracket.
Two rounds of match play are on tap for Thursday, with the final eight players advancing to Friday, when two more rounds will be played. The final will be played Saturday morning.
