Davis Womble (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and John Salerno (Charlotte, N.C.) won the Carolina Invitational Four-Ball on Sunday, shooting a two-round 8-under 134 total, one shot clear of two teams.
Despite a final-hole bogey, Womble and Salerno were able to shoot a final-round 68 to hold off the teams of David Sargent & Todd Eckstein and Kyle Bearden & Brandon Truesdale. Sargent and Eckstein shared the lead with the eventual champions after an opening-round 66, a score also shot by Jason Pool & Barry Dyche. Pool and Dyche finished in a five-way tie for fourth, two shots back.
The leaderboard was crowded, with 16 teams finishing within four shots of the lead.
The defending champions Sean Snell & Hayes Brown tied for 24th at 1 over par, as did three-time champion Joe Jaspers and his partner Jim Aughtry.
The Carolina Invitational was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the tournament was not held in 2018 due to the club hosting the U.S. Mid-Amateur.
