Jake Williams, who formerly played college golf at California State-San Marcos, took home the Inland Empire Amateur title after finishing 54 holes at Oakmont Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif., at 3 under. Williams was the only player among the 64 to make the cut who finished under par.
Williams, of Temecula, Calif., hung near the top of the leaderboard all week after starting with a 68 in the first round. He closed with back-to-back rounds of 72.
A large group of players were able to get it to even for 54 holes, but couldn’t get any closer to Williams that that. That foursome included Taewoo Yu, Taehoon Song, Tongun Lako Losarah and Forbes Collins II.
Williams also had middling finishes in the California State Open and the Southern California Open earlier this year.
In the senior division, Iain Maconald of Fullerton, Calif., was also the only man to get under par for 54 holes, and at 2 under, won by seven shots over Mike Moore.
