Welcome to Club 57, Macy Pate

High school sophomore made 14 birdies on her way to a 57 at Bermuda Run Country Club in North Carolina

Al Geiberger started Club 59. Jim Furyk founded his own Club 58. On Tuesday, high school sophomore Macy Pate joined the elite Club 57 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Pate, a sophomore at Reagan High School, fired a 14-under 57 on Tuesday to win the Central Piedmont 4-A individual title at Bermuda Run Country Club, a par-71 course that played at 4,800 yards.

The top-ranked junior girl in the state, Pate recorded 14 birdies on her round to shatter the North Carolina high school record by four shots. Virginia Tech-bound Morgan Ketchum shot 64 and finished seven strokes back.

Pate shot 27 on her outward nine and came home in 30, making birdies on the last three holes to cap off her historic round.

"I just kept hitting my wedge shots really close, and my putter was hot, so it was a great combination,” Pate told the Winston-Salem Journal.

“It’s really hard to describe what was going on," Pate said. "I just sort of hit the shots and tried to make the putts when I had chances.”

Pate joined Alex Ross, who shot 57 at the 2019 Dogwood Invitational, Washington's Tyler Salsbury who shot 57 in 2014, and Bobby Wyatt who shot 57 at the 2010 Alabama Junior.
