Weiss tops S.C. TOC on frigid weekend at TPC Myrtle Beach

Starting times were delayed due to cold weather, but winners were crowned in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

The final round of the 23rd Annual Tournament of Champions began exactly as the first round had begun. Frigid overnight temperatures at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C., loomed, forcing the final round to be delayed by an hour.

In the men’s club champion division, Jon Weiss of Florence, S.C., battled back from a one-shot deficit after the first round to shoot a final-round score of 68 and claim the title with a two-day total of 5-under 139.

In the senior club champion division, Doug Tooke of Greenville, S.C., took the title after a final-round score of even-par 72 and a tournament total of 147.

John Obrien of Columbia, S.C., was able to hold on to his lead in the one-day gross division after a final round of 75. In the senior one-day division, Eddie Hargett of Blythewood, S.C., shot a final round of 1-under 71 to take home the title by four shots.

Makalyn Poole of Williamston, S.C., continued her steady play to take home the women’s division title with a two-day total of 155. Dan Gaither of Greer, S.C., carded a second round of net 68 to secure the net division title.
