The Demon Deacons defeated South Carolina 3-2 in the final match to secure their second matchplay victory of the year

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated South Carolina 3-2 to win the 2025 Old Barnwell Derby Match Play at Old Barnwell in Aiken, S.C.

This marks the second match play victory of the year for the Wake Forest women’s golf team, also picking up a match play win earlier this year at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

In their path to the final, the Demon Deacons defeated 3-2 in the quarterfinals and then defeated Florida State 3-1-1 in the semifinals. South Carolina defeated Duke 4-1 in the quarterfinals and Virginia 4-1 in the semifinals.

"This is the first time we've played at this tournament so to play as well as we did with this competition and on a venue that is unbelievable," Wake Forest head coach Kim Lewellen told Wake Forest Athletics. "I'm really proud of these young ladies. I'm proud of how they came down and worked when we needed either a half or a point. Every single person on the team contributed to the win, and that always makes for a great drive back."
