Visalia City Amateur: Zach Tarter wins by three shots

Tarter started one shot behind Kevin Cook but a strong final round helped him finish three shots ahead.

Zack Tarter of Hanford, Calif., shot 68-68 to win the Visalia City Amateur Championship at Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia, California.

Tarter's total score of 136, placed him three strokes ahead of the runner-up, Kevin Cook, 67-72, who tallied a combined score of 139 in the tournament.

For the past two months, Tarter has found his rhythm, as he has registered solid results this season alone. In 2023, Tarter participated in nine tournaments, encompassing three qualifying events.

Within this span, he notched three top-10 finishes, including a remarkable shared top place at the U.S. Junior Am Qualifying held at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.

Although he won the event, he was put as the first alternate, which later turned into confirmation and granted him access to the prestigious 2023 U.S. Junior Am Championship, hosted in Charleston, S.C.

Although he missed the cut in the tournament, rebounded strongly with a remarkable performance, securing the runner-up position with rounds of 67-71-71 at the NCGA Junior Championship in July. In August, Tarter further gained confidence by finishing tied for 13th place at the 120th NCGA Amateur Championship, hosted at Spyglass Hills Golf Club.
