VIDEO: Duffy Wins His 3rd Nebraska Mid-Amateur in Playoff

Patrick Duffy hit the shot of the tournament on the third playoff hole to defend his title and win his third overall

LINCOLN, NE (October 1, 2017) - Patrick Duffy of Omaha won the 19th Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship in a playoff at Yankee Hill Country Club.

It was a successful defense of the title he won last year at Platteview Golf Club. Including his win in 2012, Duffy has now won three Nebraska Mid-Amateurs.

On a windy day in Lincoln, Duffy birdied the 18th hole to shoot a final-round one-over 73 to get into the playoff with with Travis Minzel (Lincoln, NE) and Bill Amundsen (Omaha, NE) at two-over 146.

On he first hole all three players hit the reachable par five in two and two putted for birdie.

After Amundsen was eliminated with a bogey on the second playoff hole, Duffy and Minzel went to the par-four 9th to continue the playoff. It was there that Duffy hit the shot of the tournament, a hybrid through the teeth of the wind to within five feet.

Minzel made a nifty up-and-down for par, forcing Duffy to hole his putt for the win. Duffy rapped it in to close out the championship.
