USC maintains Stanford lead; UCLA's Galdiano on top after 62

USC was steady in the second round to keep a sizeable lead, but the real firepower came from UCLA's Mariel Galdiano, who had 62.

STANFORD, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2018) – A day after throwing all its firepower at Stanford Golf Club, USC came back in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate with a workmanlike performance that kept them moving toward a second consecutive win. USC went 12 under in Friday’s opening round, but was 2 over on Saturday. The Trojans still have a sizeable lead, but it shrunk from 12 shots to nine.

Every Trojan player was at or under par on Friday. On Saturday, USC counted two rounds of even-par 71 and two rounds of 1-over 72.

After 36 holes, the only other team under par is Northwestern, at 1 under. The Wildcats had a 5-under 279 on Saturday to remain in the mix. Host Stanford is third after back-to-back rounds of even par.

On Saturday, the best second-round score belonged to Washington, which logged a 9-under 275 to climb seven spots on the leaderboard and get into a tie for fourth with Pepperdine.

Individually, UCLA’s Mariel Galdiano leads by three at 9 under. Galdiano, who is chasing her second victory as a Bruin, had 9-under 62 on Saturday. That round even included a bogey at No. 17.

Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela is second at 6 under. Pepperdine’s Hira Naveed is third at 5 under.
