USC leads UCLA by two at Gifford Collegiate

Paul Smith shot 67 to lead his Trojans to a two-shot lead through one round at CordeValle Golf Club

SAN MARTIN, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2014) — Senior Paul Smith fired a four-under par 67 in the opening round of the Gifford Collegiate to lead his USC Trojans to a two-shot lead through 18 holes. Smith is in third place in the individual rankings, one shot behind two players. UCLA, hosting the event at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif., former site of the PGA TOUR's Frys.com Open, sits in second place two shots behind their rival USC. Junior Jake Knapp led the Bruins with a 66. Individually, Knapp shares the lead with University of Texas freshman Doug Ghim, who also fired 66. Ghim's fourth-ranked Longhorns are in third place, four shots behind UCLA and six behind USC.
