Upsets create buzz at San Francisco City Senior Championship

March Madness has already started at Harding Park where two higher seeds were upset as match play rolls on

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2013) -- There is still a full day remaining in February but the March Madness has already begun at the San Francisco City Senior Championship at Harding Park. Top seed and defending champion Jim Williams was a 1-up winner over Michael Parnow in one of Wednesday's Sweet 16 matchups. Former champion Gary Vanier, who earned the tournament's No. 2 seed after stroke-play qualifying, was a 3-and1 winner of Joe Zanassi. No. 4 Herb Jensen, another former winner at this event, knocked off Tom O'Grady 3-and-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Robert Goodwin scored the biggest upset of the day, dispatching of Dan Bieber, the No. 3 seed, in 20 holes to move on. Goodwin is seeded 19th. Gret O'Malley, seeded eighth, was also the victim of an upset, falling to No. 24 Mark Miller in 19 holes.
